Ouch! Immediately an error found on search
« on: June 29, 2015, 06:35:06 AM »
Just registered and first query.

Nothing found with:
sovgut
Sovgut
Ganna

But predictlabs matched, and extra details do list Ganna Sovgut.
So the search is somewhat broken :(

Can you post a screenshot of the error? We haven't received any complaints so far even though there are thousands of queries per day.

By the way, you can't do partial searches. You will need to put the full name in a single field. Our hashing technology doesn't allow partial searches, mathematics don't let it happen.

No error, simply 0 matches, nothing else.

So it's some kind of a hash that needs to be matched? Now that makes queries difficult.
In this case, if this Ganna Sovgut just leaves Predictlabs out, they could bypass fraudrecord. It's actually wierd they haven't been using random fake names.

You'll be surprised how many people use the same name while jumping through host to host.

We have several matches for predictlabs, but they require full name or email matches and similar.

They are known host-hopping scammers/spammers - often getting through by ordering somethinga nd not using it for months then coming back and mass-spamming

I think they're worked out the anti-fraud checks and often make minor edits to the name/order details in order to bypass this kind of lookup - so a methodology for partial-matches and near-matches does need to be implemented

That would require member companies to send us the names and details in plain text. Our technology and the privacy protection laws regarding sharing customer data don't allow this. Partial searches can not be implemented, neither today nor in the future. Besides, many scammers use the same name every time to be able to pass the ID checks.

Or to send multiple hashes for firstname, lastname, first and last, company, company without suffix like td, email, domain part only of email etc

That wouldn't work either. In that case we would still fail to identify "John Doe" and "John Deo" as the same person, or match the names as "similar" or "near match". We would just have lots of first and last names and no way to compare them to each other.

These are only usability suggestions not bug reports ;)

Doing company name with and with suffix (ltd, llc, plc, bvna etc) would help in some cases, we've seem people sign up as similar enough names that an eyeball can see they're the same people whereas a straight hash of the value wouldnt

p.s. I've made a few mods to the WHMMCS module to improve the display - do you want them emailed somewhere for potential inclusion in the next release ?

We are already lowercasing all input prior to hashing, so we got that part covered.

As for the whmcs module, just use our contact page to access to our helpdesk and send it. I'll make sure to include your name :)

I just ran into this problem with Ganna Sovgut as well. 0 matches for Ganna and almost 80 for Ganna Sovgut. Perhaps we should start submitting multiple reports with just a first name and a last name separately? That would allow for more flexible matches.

Wow - this person really gets around.

They have had a number of servers with us over the past year.
We just installed this module and picked up on this immediately.
